I have always loved Thursdays. I think this is due to the fact that when I used to work outside of the home, Thursday meant only one more work day until the weekend. I also seem to put Thrifty and Thursday together so I have now created a new category for my blog called “Thrifty Thursday”. I hope to give you a post each Thursday about ways you can save money, get stuff for free, bargains, etc.
Today I want to share with you some uses for baking soda that you might not be aware of.
- Homemade toothpaste – I have actually been using baking soda to clean my teeth since I was a kid. You can create your own toothpaste by mixing baking soda and a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. I have always added a little bit of baking soda to the top of the toothpaste on my toothbrush.
- Antacid reliever – Yes, this stuff helps with heartburn. It can help relieve heartburn, sour stomach or indigestion. Look on the box for details on how much to use.
- Puts small flames out – I keep a box of baking soda next to my stove in case of emergency. Sometimes food that is left under your burner will cause a small fire. Keep one of these handy for quick relief.
- Gets rid of smelly sponges – I hate when I go to wash dishes and my sponge STINKS. Mix 4 to 5 teaspoons of banking soda in a bowl of water to get rid of the stink.
